Which are Some of the Best Golf Courses in Charlotte, NC?

Charlotte is a golfer’s paradise, with a plethora of courses to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a quick round or a long weekend getaway, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The city recently earned a spot on Lawn Starter’s list of the best cities for golfers. In addition to its premier course, Quail Hollow Club, the Queen City boasts plenty of public and semi-private options for golfers of all skill levels. Lets look at some of the best Charlotte, NC golf courses.

Rocky River Golf Club

Rocky River Golf Club is one of the best public courses in the Charlotte area, designed by renowned Carolina architect Dan Maples. It winds through beautiful wetlands and is set among no houses, giving it a very peaceful atmosphere.

This course has a lot of blind shots, elevation changes and water hazards, making it challenging for all golfers. However, the pace of play is very good and greens are very fast.

It is a popular spot to play and the staff are always very friendly. They get a lot of play so they do not keep the course in top shape as much as some other courses, but it is still a nice place to play.

Charlotte Country Club

Located four miles east of uptown Charlotte, Charlotte Country Club is a private 18-hole golf course. Founded in 1910, it was designed by Donald Ross.

Ross visited and worked at Charlotte in each of his four decades in America, so his personal attention is evident on the greens here. Unlike many of his clay greens in North Carolina, which are pushed up to shed water efficiently, Charlotte’s green pads are low and slope gently away from the golfer.

The course was recently renovated by Ron Pritchard, who has a reputation for sympathetically restoring old Ross designs. The result is a layout that is more Ross than Jones, but that remains playable for players using shorter tees.

Warrior Golf Club

The Warrior Golf Club is a beautiful, semi-private course that offers excellent value for golfers in the Charlotte area. Winding around Lake Wright, the course features a championship layout for every age and handicap level.

The club also boasts a range of amenities and activities for golfers to enjoy. For example, guests can enjoy a relaxing cocktail hour on the covered cypress deck overlooking the 18th hole and Lake Wright.

If you are looking for a great course to play this year, the Warrior Golf Club is worth considering! Its affordable price and fantastic value make it a must-play for all golfers in the area.

The Warrior Golf Club also offers a variety of different clubs that are suitable for beginners. These clubs have a low launch angle that will help beginner golfers improve their game.

Eagle Chase Golf Club

Eagle Chase Golf Club, located in Marshville, North Carolina, stands as one of the most unique courses in the Charlotte area. This 18-hole par-72 course has a diverse layout that will challenge even the seasoned pro and is a fun day out for the whole family.

The course also boasts a small and friendly clubhouse that features a putting green, bar and snack menu. They have also recently redesigned their driving range and practice greens to better serve their customers. I’ve played this course a few times and always enjoy the experience. They have done a good job of keeping their costs in check and are still one of the more reasonably priced golf courses in the greater Charlotte area. I’ll be back soon for a round.

Olde Sycamore Golf Club

Olde Sycamore Golf Club is a semi-private golf course in Southeast Charlotte that opened in 1997. Designed by Tom Jackson, it offers a challenging and enjoyable golf experience for players of all abilities.

The course is a par-72 that features bermudagrass fairways and Crenshaw bent grass greens. There are numerous elevation changes and over 30 bunkers that offer plenty of challenge for golfers.

Located near I-485, this course is easy to access for residents of Charlotte. It also offers excellent practice facilities, including a driving range and a putting green. The clubhouse has a snack bar and a fully-stocked golf shop.
